Monk Seal Advisory

Effective: Thursday, July 6, 2017 - 2:15pm to Friday, August 4, 2017 - 2:15pm

Alert:

A new born monk seal pup is being weaned by it's mother at Sans Souci/Kaimana beach. this can last up to 5 weeks or more. The public is advised to stay out of the water. Hawaiian monk seals, even pups, are large powerful animals and can bite if they feel threatened.

Description:

Monk seals may appear dead, but they are not. They often lie on the beaches to sun themselves. Never approach a monk seal on the beach.

Affected Monitored Beaches:

Sans Souci (Click on Link to learn more about the beach)

Unmonitored lands and waters in the impact area described in the alert will also be impacted.

If conditions change before expiration or the event needs to be extended, an update or cancellation will be issued from Hawaii Beach Safety Website.
