First triennial North Shore surf event calendar posted

Three-year calendar period runs from Sept. 2019 through Dec. 2021

North Shore -- The first triennial calendar for surf events on O‘ahu's North Shore has been finalized and is now available online.

The public may view the calendar by visiting the "North Shore Surf Event Information" website from the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation webpage or by clicking here.

The current calendar for North Shore surf events, from Sept. 2018 to May 2019, will remain posted until that season expires. The triennial calendar runs from Sept. 2019 through Dec. 2021 and is displayed by each calendar year on the website.

Three summer months are excluded from the triennial calendar because no surf events are permitted during that time (from June through August). This calendar does not include non-surf events for the North Shore, such as events for swimming.

"All of us are very pleased with the finalized schedule for this first triennial calendar," said Department of Parks and Recreation Director Michele Nekota. "We believe that the process was fair to the applicants, with less scheduling conflicts, as the new rules effectively balance the interests of the public, the North Shore community, and surf event organizers."

The current rules dictating permitting for Shore Water Events went into effect on July 30 following a public hearing on the proposed changes.
