Phase 2 of Kuilei Cliff rock fall mitigation beginning near Beach Road

LĒ‘AHI -- The second phase of a rock fall mitigation project along the cliffs of Diamond Head, Lē‘ahi, is scheduled to begin next week on Monday, Dec. 16.

The work will take place between Diamond Head Road and Beach Road, with the primary construction staging area being held on Beach Road. As a result, much of Beach Road will be blocked to vehicular traffic, however pedestrian beach access will remain open. The public is advised to drive with caution and heed any warnings from construction crews while in the vicinity of the work site.

Construction work is scheduled to take a break during the holidays and resume in the New Year, with completion expected by February 2020.

This second phase of a $2.08 million project to enhance rock fall mitigation along these picturesque cliffs follows the first phase, which began in February and was completed in August, just east of the upcoming project site.

The Department of Facility Maintenance also recently completed a road repaving project, an area of about 6/10ths of a mile, between Diamond Head Lookout

and 22nd Avenue.
