Lanikai parking restriction implemented for Kamehameha Day Weekend and ongoing construction work

KAILUA – The City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services (DTS) will be
restricting parking in Lanikai starting Friday, June 11, 2021 in an effort to reduce traffic congestion for residents along the Lanikai-Kaʻōhao shoreline during the Kamehameha Day Weekend. These parking restrictions are similar to regular parking restrictions on holiday weekends.

No parking will be allowed on all streets and shoulders of Mokulua and ʻAʻalapapa Drives in Lanikai from 10 am to 3 pm for the entire Kamehameha Day Weekend.

Parking will also be restricted on cross-streets connecting Mokulua and ʻAʻalapapa Drives.

DTS will leave in place temporary “sawhorse” type signs on affected streets in Lanikai to warn drivers of the parking restrictions.

The 3-day weekend parking restrictions in Lanikai overlap with the ongoing
Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS) construction parking restrictions. Currently, parking is restricted from 8:30 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday. However, for Friday, June 11 (Kamehameha Day), parking restrictions will be enforced from 10 am to 3 pm, and will follow the 3-day weekend enforcement.

Immediately following this 3-day weekend parking restriction, BWS’ regular work replacing water mains will resume on Monday, June 14, with construction-related parking restrictions between 8:30 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday.  The current phase of construction provides limited access in and out of Lanikai; these parking restrictions aim at maintaining emergency vehicle and resident access to and from the neighborhood.

BWS construction is expected to continue through December 2021. Future phases of this project are further into Lanikai and should not present the same concerns regarding access for Honolulu Police, Fire and ambulances.
