Survey launched to gather community input on Shore Water Events

Survey focuses on possible revisions to City park rules governing events such as surf contests

O‘AHU -- The Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is inviting members of our community to share their mana‘o (opinion/thought) regarding proposed revisions to rules governing Shore Water Events around O‘ahu.

Shore Water Events typically include activities that involve permitted use of coastal and beach areas for the purpose of accessing the ocean, such as: surf contests, canoe regattas, triathlons, and swim races. These rules are designed to work in tangent with ocean permitting and usage guidelines facilitated by the State of Hawai‘i.

The questions focus on proposed revisions to DPR's Shore Water Rules that include possible changes to regulations regarding gender equity, event parameters, and impacts of Shore Water Events on the community.

The survey is now open and will be closed in two months on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. (HST). You can access the survey by clicking here or following this website: bit.ly/shorewatersurvey

For a copy of the existing Shore Water Event Rules click here or visit the official DPR website (honolulu.gov/parks) and click the "Rules & Regulations" box.

Please only submit one response per person. Mahalo in advance for those who contribute their time and mana‘o to complete this survey. Your participation is greatly appreciated.
